Shortest - RXP-20 and Versalite-20. RXP is tapered, but what is probably more of an issue is that the OP section of the wad is very shallow. I believe a long OP cup can expand to get a good seal on a tapered wad. Although the factory lists them as a 7/8oz. wad they work well with 1oz. if you use a low dense, sitting powder like HS6. The Duster orange 20 is a 7/8oz. wad, period. It sits high with about any brand/type powder.

Federal cases can be loaded with 18 grains of Longshot and a Federal 209A primer or 19 Grains of Longshot and a Remington 209P primer and the RXP20 wad. If you want a 1 oz. load using the STS cases, a Winchester 209 primer and the RXP 20 wad, you can use 16.0 grains of 800X or 16.5 grains of Herco and a Remington 209P primer though. For 2 3/4" non toxic 20 ga loads, the straight walled hulls are the best. Fiocchi, Cheddite, Rio, Federal. You can get away with Bismuth in the Rem and Win hulls with the right powder and wads. I personally just shoot 3/4 oz steel in 2 3/4" hulls but that takes Steel powder to get the speed needed.
